Mission Statement Of The Sisters Of The Good Shepherd

OUR MISSION AS SISTERS OF THE GOOD SHEPHERD IN INDIA,IS BY PRAYER AND SACRIFICE AND BY MEANS OF QUALITATIVE EDUCATIONAL, HEALTH AND SOCIAL MINISTRIES.TO BRING RECONCILIATION THROUGH OUR EXPERIENCE OF JESUS THE GOOD SHEPHERD, TO ALL, ESPECIALLY GIRLS AND WOMEN WHO ARE POOR AND EXPLOITED.

At present there are about 5000 Sisters belonging to the active and contemplative branches the world over. Thousands of dedicated lay staff also share in this mission and work to transform the lives of thousands of girls and women who are caught in the web of problems like drug addiction, prostitution, exploitation by violent husbands, premarital pregnancy, suicidal tendencies etc. We run education and rehabilitation centres, orphanages, hostels, outreach programmes, crisis intervention centres, schools and a hospital. In India, in addition to our institutions in Bangalore, Bellary, Mysore, Chennai, Mumbai, we have ventured out in rural areas like Manvi, Mudubidri in Karnataka, Mangalagiri, khammam, and Amaravati in Andhra Pradesh, Balaghat and Garratola in Nagpur, Wyanad, Kannara and Thaikkattussery in Kerala, Salem, Keezhamanakudy and Pallavaram in Tamil Nadu and Andheri, Karajat and Virar in Mumbai. We respond to the challenges of the present Indian situation particularly the plight of the poor, exploited and oppressed women.
